Marking the start of Carers Week, Robin Swann the Minister for Health has launched a new ID Card for supporting Carers in NI.

Similar to the ID cards for healthcare workers, carers will be able to show this card in stores to get access to priority shopping hours.
ASDA, Co-op, Iceland, Lidl M&S and Sainsbury's have all confirmed that they will facilitate unpaid family carers during priority shopping hours.
We know that many of our carers have struggled to get to shops during peak times, and hopefully this will be of some help and assistance during these difficult times. The cards will be automatically issued in the next two weeks via the Trusts to carers known to their trusts and receiving services.
In making the announcement, the Minister paid tribute to family carers. He said " I am pleased that the theme for this week is to help make caring visible, so much of what carers do goes on in family homes and is often unseen but is not unappreciated. Carers are there at all hours of the day and night and for that we are very grateful"

Carer ID cards are issued by the Health Trusts. Carers who are known to their local Trust and are in receipt of services will receive an ID card shortly – there is no need to apply for a card.  Please contact your Trust Carer co-ordinator if you have not received a card within the next 2 weeks.
