Support groups

Due to the current pandemic and to assist our carers, volunteers, supporters and staff, we have set up an online hub to provide practical support and information that is useful for people supporting people with a complex mental illness.

Further to government advice on the coronavirus and the importance of social distancing to keep people safe, we are asking all of our groups not to meet in person for the foreseeable future but instead to maintain contact, where possible, through phone, email and other virtual technology.

The UK Government has increased measures to help combat the spread of the coronavirus which includes social distancing, the avoidance of public meetings and the need to stop any non-urgent travel.

Our front line team of Carer Advocates and all other staff have been asked to work from home and adhere to this guidance. Therefore, support to groups and individuals will now be provided by telephone and email and Carer Advocates will be unable to meet in person for the foreseeable future.

If you need support please call our free and confidential HELPLINE on 0800 103 2833 or

email: [email protected]

'I felt at a loss and didn't know how to get the help we need but through the support group, I not only found support and practical advice but friendships too.  The Carer Advocate does an amazing job in providing one to one support as well as group meeting plus sourcing courses for members. Thank you CAUSE!'

It can be difficult to talk about your concerns with other people who may not understand or appreciate what you can encounter in supporting a loved one with mental illness. We facilitate a network of monthly support groups for families, partners and friends across Northern Ireland.

CAUSE support groups provide you with the opportunity to meet with other people who have similar experiences to you in a safe space. Many carers value the support, learning and social interaction they get from meeting other carers in our groups.

Our support groups are for strictly for mental health carers - friends, family, partners who care and support someone living with a severe and complex mental illness. They are closed confidential groups rather than walk in or open door.
